1996 - The Sweet & Heat
04.09.1996 Hafenbahn / Offenbach
ANDY SCOTT´s SWEET
Support: The Heat
Originally the slogan for the “Ballroom Blitz hits your town” tour read: “The voice of Sweet has returned – Brian Conolly is coming to Offenbach”.
Ehm, no – Brian Conollys SWEET didn’t come. Legendary SWEET Guitarist Andy Scott and his version of THE SWEET were on instead.
The overall mood was fantastic and SWEET were so brilliant that the word SUPERB really feels rather small.
Despite of playing songs from the very first Sweet album the band also played most of their massive hits. The gig opened with “Hell raiser” and ended with “Fox on the run”.
Also on the set list: “Block Buster”, “Ballroom Blitz”, “Little Willie” and “Wig Wam Bam”. Song of the evening without a doubt: “Love is like oxygen” – class, 1000% perfect.
Chad Brown, singer in Andy Scott’s Sweet, had a brilliant voice not even a bit less powerful than the one of Brian Conolly.
Andy Scott himself is heading towards his 50s and he doubled in size over the last 20 years. But that doesn’t mean that he couldn’t move.
Small problems with the Sequencer were played down by Andy with the remark: “We’ve got problems – fucking problems” and it was clear that Sweet couldn’t leave without playing a massive set of additional songs.
Support act “The Heat” from Stuttgart were quite good actually, especially the singers voice was really impressive. Nevertheless the reception wasn’t great and it is a fair assessment to say that their strange accent didn’t help the performance.
