1996 - Tracy Chapman
25.04.1996 Hugenottenhalle Neu-Isenburg
TRACY CHAPMAN
It was hot outside, very warm inside and no fresh air whatsoever. All in all not really a perfect night for a concert evening. A big sign on stage said: “The artist asks you not to smoke” and I liked that a lot as I was struggling with chronicle bronchitis.
Twenty past eight and Tracy Chapman and her gorgeous (nearly) all girl band made their way to the stage to play for 2 ½ hours.
The “New Beginning” tour earned her a packed venue and very rightly so. Tracy played like a real pro and everything came from the heart. All along the evening one could see people crying, moved by the music and lyrics of Tracy Chapman.
It’s a rare sight to see an artist being one with the audience. The Hugenottenhalle is a fairly big venue for a rather “personal” event but Tracy managed to reach into the souls of the audience.
Her five piece band (two males, three females) added to the ambient mood. Especially the performances of percussionist Geena Rogers and guitarist Linda Taylor were in my head for a good while.
Tracy lives her music 200% and I was very impressed.
The song I liked best was “The Promise” from the new beginning album.
Tracy rightly said: “All that you have is your soul”
