BLACK SABBATH
22.12.2013 NIA Birmingham
2013 was a superb year for Tony Iommi, Geezer Butler and Ozzy Osbourne as they circled the globe, playing in major venues across the world. Their latest album "13" has garnered three Grammy nominations and has made it to the top spot of the charts in over 10 countries.
Tonight Birmingham's biggest musical export (I guess Duran Duran won't be pleased to hear that) came home.
The show was superb and the boys didn't show their age at all. Full of energy and enthusiasm they commanded the crowd from the first note onward. Ozzy shouted numerous times: "I can't fu**ing hear you" but that was probably a sign of aging (lol) because the crowd was really awesome and very vocal indeed.
Sabbath was in top notch form, Ozzy's voice was there all the time as they played for a solid two hours and just watching Tony Iommi doing his magic on stage was magical.
Many "13" songs were played and they fitted in well with the classics, ranging from "War pigs" to "Black Sabbath" and, of course, "Fairies wear boots".
The most impressive thing about Sabbath, apart from the awesome backdrops and lighting effects, is that they still turn out new stuff, still deliver powerful songs and there is an honesty to the blokes on stage that transcends any notion of nostalgia.
A really powerful performance and a lovely pre- Christmas gift to ourselves.
